Typical Sheet Sizes
  • Twin: 68 inches by 96 inches
  • Full: 81 inches by 96 inches
  • Queen: 90 inches by 102 inches
  • King: 108 inches x 102 inches
  • California King: 108 inches by 102 inches

On average, box spring mattresses come in a few standard sizes. These include twin, full, queen, and king. Twin is the smallest, and the king is the biggest.

However, there is also a California king, which is enormous.

Make sure you know the standard dimensions of bed linens before buying flat sheets. This way, you’ll know they fit.

Standard Sheet Dimensions

Most sheets come in standard sizes. A twin flat sheet is 66 inches wide and 96 inches long.

A full-size flat sheet is 81 inches wide and 96 inches long. A queen-size flat sheet is usually 90 inches wide and 102 inches long.

Finally, a king sheet is approximately 108 inches wide and 102 inches long. Of course, these dimensions vary by manufacturer and material. For our sizes, we used Blair.com’s flat sheet size chart.

Unsurprisingly, Hayneedle’s flat sheet dimension chart lists the same measurements. Some mattresses have pillow toppers, which can affect how snugly the sheet fits against the bed.

Finally, all mattresses are different, even though there are standard sizes.

Find Your Flat Sheet Size

Before buying sheets, you can check your mattress. It should say what sheet dimensions you need.

In fact, this tag says that it’s illegal to remove, so it should still be attached.

When in doubt, it never hurts to buy sheets that are slightly bigger than you need to make sure you have enough material.
