Why Use A Unique Real Estate Logo?
However, making one is not easy. Your logo design must show you’re in the real estate business without using a generic template like everyone else. Well, you’re in luck because we have free templates for you.
After all, unique marketing sets you apart from the competition. Read on for free logo ideas and to learn how using online resources will help you create a custom logo for your real estate business.
Sure, a logo with a house shows you’re in the real estate business. But why not make it unique? Investing time in your brand shows home buyers you’re willing to put in more effort than other agents.
I’m sure you’ve questioned an agent’s competence after seeing a bad logo. Bottom line, small details set you apart and having a professional logo is important.
4 Basic Logo Categories
Before doing anything, you should understand your design options. Logos fall into 4 basic categories, though real estate companies use only two.
These logos invoke client feelings by placing a “mark” beside the company name. Brands to Life hits the nail on the head with their definition – “…not a Logo, it’s an emotional connection.”
Brandmarks tell a story and usually have deeper meaning than just a name and design. When you see the Nike logo, you feel the words moving. No wonder they call it the swoosh.
A wordmark logo uses lettering as its design and includes no additional features. Simply put, the logo and name are blended together to create a simple design that is easily recognizable.
When reading the word “Google” most people think of this image. This keeps things simple and helps expand brand recognition. However, the downside is that it’s not immediately clear what the company does.
Wordmarks are best used for companies with existing brand recognition that don’t need to tell a story to new customers.
A lettermark is comprised of only an abbreviation with no additional design features. CNN and HBO are great examples of this type of logo.
Cable News Network is hard to quickly type and wouldn’t look good plastered on a TV screen. These logos are great for brands wanting to shorten their name in advertising.
Iconic designs aren’t as simple but are still easy to recognize. For example, the McDonalds logo doesn’t create an emotional connection with customers but almost everyone recognizes it.
Tip: Real Estate Logos typically incorporate a house or building into them and fall into the brandmark and iconic categories. Why? Because it should be clear that you sell property!
Often discussed but seldom explained are font styles. Understanding font differences helps keep logo designs consistent.
- Serif – This font style involves a small lines at the end of letters. The “F” in the heading above has tails, but the one in Roman does not. See the difference?
- Sans Serif – Sans means “without,” so it’s natural this means it does not have Serif. In other words, there are no tails. The lettering in our examples above use this lettering, as it’s less distracting to the customer.
For example, when making a bold logo, you’ll use a funky font. If minimalism is your style, selecting Times New Roman will spoil the design. Fonts fall into two categories:

How to Create a Logo
After inspiration strikes, taking the next step is easy. Most real estate firms don’t have a graphic designer on staff. Fortunately, online resources make it easy to design the logo of your dreams. You have three options:
1. Seek Professional Help
Sites like Fiverr.com make logo design a breeze by linking you with freelance graphic designers. Simply create an account, post a request, and away you go.
They’ll use your inspiration and create a few designs. You then tweak the design until you find the logo that perfectly fits your real estate brand.
2. Buy a Generic Logo
Nothing is more frustrating than trying to find inspiration. To avoid this, you can buy a pre=made logo from LogoGround.com. Just pick a logo, add your information, and download the file. We’ve bought this type of service before and really liked the easy of use.
Tip: These logos are usually generic, so research your local market to see what designs other real estate firms are using. then pick one that helps you stick out from the crowd.
3. Use an Online Service
Resources like Designhill (which uses a lettermark logo style, by the way) let you create your own design. Simply enter the name of your real estate firm, select a design, and modify it from there.
Their online graphic design tool makes it easy to customize and best of all, prices are very reasonable.
