What Is the Lowe’s Return Policy?
Lowe’s says that customer satisfaction is its goal. If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, you can return it to any Lowe’s store within 90 days.
Be sure to have a valid receipt on hand to ensure you get a full refund. Lowe’s managers will use their discretion to repair, replace, or refund your method of payment.
If you don’t have your original receipt, don’t worry. Lowe’s can look up your purchase by swiping the credit card you used. Also, if you provided a phone number at the time of checkout, Lowe’s can look up your purchase that way as well.
If you paid with cash or the associate can’t find your receipt, you might still be able to get store credit. A lost or stolen gift card will only be credited for the original balance if you have the original receipt.
Exceptions to the Lowe’s 90-Day Return Policy
While Lowe’s will take back most items within 90 days of purchase, there are some exceptions. Winter or seasonal items must be returned on or before December 31 of that holiday season.
Lowe’s won’t take back any winter holiday seasonal items after January 1, even if it hasn’t been 90 days since purchase. The other exception to this policy is major appliances, outdoor power equipment, and highway trailers.
All of these items must be returned within 30 days:
30 Day Return Policy
- Washing machines
- Range hoods
- Chain saws
- Pressure washers
30-Day return items must be returned to a Lowe’s store in the original purchase condition with all original paperwork, including a title if applicable.
Items must be in like-new condition and you must have the original receipt in order to receive a refund, repair or exchange.
Returning Items Under Warranty
If it’s been more than 90 days from the date of purchase and your merchandise stops working, check first to see if the item is under warranty.
Manufacturer defects may be covered under your warranty and repaired at no cost. Call Lowe’s Service Advantage hotline to schedule a factory-certified service appointment at your home.
Even if the repair is not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty, a technician may be able to repair it for you for a fee. Lowe’s Service Advantage toll-free hotline is 1-888-775-6937.
How to Process Lowe’s Online Returns
Perhaps the easiest way to return lowesforpros.com purchases is to head into your local store. No receipt is required in most cases to make a return if you provide your MyLowe’s card or the credit card used for the original purchase.
Or, if you don’t want to head into the store, Lowe’s offers prepaid parcel-shipped merchandise returns on many online items. If the prepaid option is available for your item, it will come with a prepaid return slip.
Using Lowe’s Centralized Parcel Return Facility
- Package the item in a sturdy shipping box or envelope
- Include only the items for the prepaid return slip
- Include all original packaging, manuals and accessories
- Detach and fill out your return slip and include with the shipment
- Place the shipping label on your package
- Give the package to your local carrier or drop it off at a carrier store, terminal or dropbox
Note: You won’t be refunded for your original shipping charges for your online purchase.
Home Depot vs Lowe’s Return Policy
The Lowe’s return policy is pretty par for the course. It is very similar in essence to Home Depot’s return policy. Like Lowe’s, Home Depot allows 90 days for a full refund with your original receipt.
If you lost your receipt, you may be able to get store credit for the item’s current selling price. Home Depot will also take down your driver’s license if you return a purchase without a receipt.
Major appliances, among other things, are exceptions to the Home Depot return policy, like Lowe’s. Home Depot does mention that items should include original packaging, while the Lowe’s policy does not.
Lowe’s vs Costco Return Policy
The only more generous policy out there is Costco’s return policy, which has no time limit. Customers who aren’t satisfied with a purchase can bring it back at any time for a full refund.
And in most cases, you don’t even need your receipt. What all of these stores have in common is that returns are offered at the discretion of a manager, at the end of the day.
If you bring in a used nail gun and say you weren’t satisfied, some managers will return it. Some may not. Use your best judgement. If it’s fair, you will usually at least receive store credit.
If you aren’t satisfied, call Lowe’s Customer Care at 1-800-445-6937. They are happy to help, and may even be able to offer solutions you didn’t think of.
Easy Returns at Lowe’s
Overall, Lowe’s has a pretty flexible return policy. You can return items for full credit within 90 days of purchase provided you have the original receipt. If you aren’t able to verify proof of purchase, you can still receive store credit in most cases.
Most online orders will come with a prepaid return shipping label, so you can easily mail back the package. No label included? Just head to your local Lowe’s store. Just note that you won’t get your original shipping charges back, unfortunately.
At the end of the day, returns, refunds, and repairs are offered at the discretion of the store manager. As long as your complaints are valid, you will usually receive a refund or exchange.
