Sign Material Options
Build A Sign offers options for every need and budget. Read on to find out the types of material offered and unique features about each.
This is the most durable and long-lasting material BuildASign sells, which is why it’s a popular choice for real estate professionals.
It is available in 18″ x 24″, 18″ x 12″ and 6″ by 12″ (license plate size). This material is digitally printed and is suggested for severe climate conditions.
Larger than aluminum signs, Alumacore is for large-scale advertisements. They can be printed double-sided and are available in 2′ x 4′, 4′ x 4′, and 4′ x 8′.
A more affordable alternative, corrugated plastic is lightweight and suited for indoor our outdoor use. The water-resistant material is ideal for yard signs as it will not yellow in sunlight. Corrugated plastic can last up to 18 months.
Foam core is a cheap option for short-term needs. It is best used indoors only on an easel or storefront.
Reflective aluminum is ideal for signs that will be viewed outdoors, day or night. Heavy gauge aluminum has a highly reflective surface that will not rust.
This can be ideal of your property is on a busy road and you expect traffic may view the for-sale sign at all hours of the day. Popular sizes include 5″ x 18″, 18″ x 12″, and 18″ x 24″.
Perfect for a walkway or storefront, sandwich boards feature water-resistant side panels that will not yellow in the sun. This is a good idea to place on a walkway during an open house or in front of your office.
The Sandwich Board Bundle includes the A-Frame sign holder made from rugged plastic, two printed corrugated plastic side panels, and four velcro-bond pieces to attach the panels to the frame.
Tip: Along with yard signs, other material options include bumper stickers, business cards, decals, magnets and static cling for car windows. These affordable options can be a great supplement to your business.
The cost of yard signage depends on several factors: material, size, and quantity. A 12″ by 18″ Corrugated Plastic sign is $12.78, but you can save the more you purchase.
If you purchase 5 signs, your cost is reduced to $8.82 each. An aluminum sign of the same size would cost $24.62, but buying 100 takes the price down to $6.59 each.
Although aluminum signs are more expensive, they last much longer than their corrugated plastic counterparts.
These can be hung with tape or in a metal frame with a rider. A typical 12″ by 18″ metal frame with rider is $28.24 for 1, and of course prices decrease when ordered in volume.
These volume discounts are best outlined by looking at an example. We compared Build A Sign to rival Vistaprint and the price difference was astonishing.
For our quote, we got quotes on a simple one-sided, 18″ x 24″ corrugated plastic sign. For 1 sign, Build A Sign’s price was $17.08, compared to Vistaprint’s $19 – a small difference, but not too bad.
However, when we boosted our volume to 40 signs, Build A Sign’s quote equaled $5.87 each compared to Vistaprint’s $15 each. That’s over $365 in savings by using BuildASign!
To be fair, Vistaprint’s model is to make designing products as easy as possible, and they do an excellent job at this. Their design tool lets you add logos, text, and anything else you see fit.
Build A Sign’s module is a little more difficult to use and to make a custom sign, you must use their design services. So if you’re buying one sign and need to make a design from scratch, Vistaprint is the better option.
However, if you have your own design or are using one of our real estate sign templates, you should absolutely use Build A Sign, as the savings are mind-blowing.
Using the Design Tool
When I used BuildASign.com, I ordered 9 metal parking signs. There were many sign templates to choose from, and I found one that I liked. The only modification I needed was to add a line of text. Simple enough, right? Not quite.
While the design tool is simple, I disliked the lack of color options. Additionally, there’s a “center” feature to center text, but it only works from side to side.
I wasn’t sure if the text was centered from top to bottom, and while my signs turned out well, I’m still not sure if they are exactly proportionate.
This is a minor gripe, as the cost savings over a site like Vistaprint are worth the feature-poor design tools. However, this along with the relatively limited color choices are something you should know about before ordering.
Build A Sign Warranty
If you are not 100% satisfied after taking delivery, they’ll work with you to make it right. BuildASign offers a 90-day money-back guarantee against manufacturing guarantees.
Although this warranty is the legal version, the company is focused on earning repeat business. We’ll venture to guess that, like any customer-centered company, they’ll do right by you, even if the sign is out of warranty.
Tip: If you realize you made a mistake on your order, contact customer service right away by calling 1-800-330-9622. Changing may be possible if you contact the company immediately.

How to Order Your Signs
Choose a pre-designed template and customize text, colors, and fonts. Or, start from scratch to add text, clipart and images to create a one-of-a-kind look.
Color options include white, gray, navy, black, blue, teal, yellow, green, brick, khaki, red, sky blue, purple, and orange. More colors are available if you upload your own image.
- Upload your images – Upload a jpeg, eps, or png file under 12 MB.
- Edit your images – Make sure your images are high quality. Use the BuildASign.com design tool to zoom in on the image. Make sure it looks nice and is not grainy.
- View your proof – This is a high resolution mock-up of your design. Check for typos and ensure your design looks how you’ve envisioned.
- Choose your material – Pick from aluminum, corrugated plastic, or aluminum.
- Select your size and options – Options range from 9 inches by 12 inches to 24 inches by 36 inches. You may also choose single or double sided signs. Need an arrow? They’ll make sure the arrow points the same way on each side. Talk about attention to detail! I’d have never thought of that feature on my own. Luckily, I’m not in the sign business – I leave that to the pros.
- Choose display options – Don’t forget that your sign has to hang somehow. Will it sit on a wire frame or hang from a building? Build A Sign has many options for you to choose from, including wire frames, grommets, or wire stakes. Metal signs can be displayed with metal frames and riders can be easily added.
- Select quantity and place order – Keep in mind higher quantities lead to greater volume discounts, so price more than you need. It never hurts to have a few signs laying around. Shipping is typically free with bigger orders.
Tip: Orders placed after 3pm will count as orders for the next day. If you place your order before 3pm and choose rush shipping, you can receive as soon as the next day.
